Step 5: Add the SMS plugin

After you've created the two necessary pages, add the SMS plugin to the Sermon page. 

 

  1. Refer to Illustration 9. Using the Page Module (1), click on the Sermon page (2).

  2. In the page form, click Create new element (3).

Note: If you are using a template with multiple content areas (as in this illustration), create the new element in the Main Content area.

    down to the plugins section and click on the Sermon Management System plugin as in Illustration 10 (3).

 


  1. Tip: Although you are not required to provide a title to this new element , it is good practice to always label each new content element. By choosing the Hidden type, the header will not appear on the website, but you will be able to quickly identify the element with the List Module as well as in other views.

    11. In the Pagecontent form, fill in the header (1) and select Hidden as the header Type (2). If you'd rather have the header display on the page then leave the Type set to Normal.

  3. Select Brief Layout in the plugin Options (3) and click List in the What to Display: Items list (4). List will display a list of available sermons.

  4. Click on the file icon to the right of Startingpoint (5) and select Sermon Record Folder from the popup box.

  5. Save and close the form. 

 

 

 

Adjusting the Layouts

There are three out-of-the-box default layouts and one user defined layout (Customized Layout) with the SMS installation. The three default layouts are suitable for most applications. The following provides instructions on how to switch between the three default layouts. However, even the default layouts can be customized if desired (see Layout Modifications). It is easy to change layouts, so you can choose one now and change it any time. You will be able to see all the features of the layouts on your website after you enter several sermons.

The Brief Layout

As you might expect, the Brief Layout presents a minimal amount of information for your Frontend visitors. This view presents the Sermon Title, Speaker, Date of Occurrence, and Resource(s).

 

To change the Sermons display to the Brief Layout:  

 

  1. Refer to Illustration 12.

    Using the Page Module, click on the Sermons page. Then click the Edit Element icon to open the SMS plugin form.

  2. In the plugin Options field, select the General tab (View 1).

  3. From the Choose your Layout dropdown box, choose Brief Layout.

  4. In the plugin Options field, select the List View Settings tab (View 2).

  5. Ensure the Group by field is blank.

  6. Ensure Sermons is selected in the Detail field.

  7. In the Order Sermon Records by field, select how you would like your sermons orders (alphabetically by Title, Description, or by Occurance Date order).

  8. Save and close the form. 

 

The changes will be made to the website immediately. 

The Verbose Layout

The Verbose Layout presents the most information for your Frontend visitors. This view presents the Sermon Title, Speaker, Date of Occurrence, Scriptures, Description, Season, Resource/s, Related Topic, and any sermon Graphic you may have chosen.

 

To change the Sermons display to the Verbose Layout:  

 

  1. Refer to Illustration 12. Using the Page Module, click on the Sermons page. Then click the Edit Element icon to open the SMS plugin form.

  2. In the plugin Options field, select the General tab.

  3. From the Choose your Layout dropdown box, choose Verbose Layout.

  4. In the plugin Options field, select the List View Settings tab.

  5. Ensure the Group by field is blank.

  6. Ensure Sermons is selected in the Detail field.

  7. In the Order Sermon Records by field, select how you would like your sermons orders (alphabetically by Title, Description, or by Date order).

  8. Save and close the form. 

 

The changes will be made to the website immediately. 

The Series Layout

The Series Layout displays a table that groups the sermons together according their respective series.

 


Note: In the Series Layout, any sermon that is not assigned to a series will not be displayed in this layout.

 

This view presents the Series Title, Date of Occurrence, and the Sermon Title. Additional information is available by following the SMS generated links. 

 

To change the Sermons display to the Series Layout:  

 

  1. Refer to Illustration 12. Using the Page Module, click on the Sermons page. Then click the Edit Element icon to open the SMS plugin form.

  2. In the plugin Options field, select the General tab.

  3. From the Choose your Layout dropdown box, choose Series Layout.

  4. In the plugin Options field, select the List View Settings tab.

  5. Select Sermon Series from the Group by dropdown box.

  6. Ensure Sermons is selected in the Detail field.

  7. In the Order Sermon Records by field, select how you would like your sermons orders (alphabetically by Title, Description, or by Date order).

  8. Save and close the form. 

 

The changes will be made to the website immediately. 

Adding a Search Feature to the Layout

In many cases, you may want to add a Sermons Search feature to your display. The TYPO3 website search feature will search through the main fields in your sermon records, but it searches all pages instead of just sermons. The Sermons Search feature will search through that main fields in the sermon records as well as whatever key words you have added via the Sermon Record form.

 

Tip:
If you have chosen not to add Key Words to your Sermon Records, you do not

 


Note: The current version of SMS Search does not search through content in sermon resource records. Later versions are expected to add this feature.

 

Add a Sermons Search feature to your Sermons page by: 

 

  1. Using the Page Module, select the Sermons page.

  2. Click the Create new element icon in the content area you'd like the Sermons Search feature to appear. (You can refer to Add and Configure the SMS plugin  and Illustrations 9-10 for a refresher on adding a Content Element if needed.)

  3. Select the Sermons Management System plugin from the list of new content elements.

  4. In the plugin Options section, select Search from the items for the What to Display field.

  5. Click the List View Settings tab and select whichever option you prefer for the Order Sermon Records By field.

  6. Save the form.
